Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Naval Force has successfully targeted a model US aircraft carrier in naval drills held in the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf.

The series of exercises were named "Prophet Mohammad- 9".

The real-size model aircraft carrier which was built by the IRGC Naval Force, was struck by hundreds of rockets and tens of missiles, including a number of cruise and two ballistic missiles, and was completely destroyed, Fars news agency reported Feb. 25.

The watercraft was assaulted on all sides by fast attack boats that targeted it with 400 rounds of 107-millimeter rockets as well as Nasr missiles.

IRGC Naval Force Commander Hossein Fadavi had previously said that the forces under his command were preparing a model US aircraft carrier 202 meters long. He had added that it would take the IRGC naval forces 50 seconds to destroy a US watercraft.

The IRGC also tested two high-precision air-to-surface cruise missiles launched from helicopters. They also tested surface-to-surface missiles Fateh 119 and Zelzal during the exercises.

The IRGC started the massive naval drill on the morning of Feb. 25 in the Gulf and the strategic Strait of Hormuz, through which one fifth of the world oil supply pass.

Prophet Mohammad-9 drills started in presence of the Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani as well as commander of the IRGC Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari and high-ranking military commanders.

Last month, Fadavi said that the IRGC's military principles are based on combatting any US threats, by standing up against them and being the winner on the battlefield.
