Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb.25
By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran has criticized U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry for saying that Iran's support for Shiite rebels in Yemen contributed to the militia's takeover.
Iran's foreign ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said that Kerry's comments were contrary to comments of other U.S. officials, Iran 's ISNA news agency reported on Feb. 25.
Afkham said that Iran's principal policy is that every nation should change its destiny.
On Feb. 24, Kerry said that Iran 's support for Shiite rebels in Yemen "contributed" to the militia's takeover of the Yemeni capital and the collapse of the government.
Tehran 's support for the Houthi militia was "critical" in shoring up the rebels, according to Kerry.
"But I do know that the Iranians were surprised by the events that took place and are hoping to see a national dialogue take place," Kerry said.
All the mechanisms should be based on Yemeni people's will, Afkham said, adding that external pressure would complicate the situation in Yemen.
