Mehdi Hashemi, son of the former Iranian President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has appealed against 15 years prison and fine sentence.

He was found guilty in three convictions of seven, five and three years, one of which is linked to security issues as well as corruption charges.

A judiciary source said that Hashemi's case will be reviewed by an appellate court, Iran's Fars news agency reported April 4.

The trial of Hashemi, started last August in the Tehran Revolutionary Court behind closed doors.

Hashemi has been released on bail after three months of imprisonment in December 2012.

The son of the Iranian ex-president was arrested upon his arrival in Tehran from the UK, where he lived for three years. Hashemi was arrested on charges of propaganda against the state and corruption.
