Time ripe for Iran and Australia to boost relations-Zarif

Baku, Azerbaijan, Apr.18

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said that time is ripe for Iran and Australia to boost bilateral relations.

Speaking at a joint press conference with visiting Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, Zarif said that the two countries have always had economic and political relations. "The relations have seen ups and downs, but, now it is time to raise bilateral relations to a higher level," Iran's Fars news agency quoted Zarif as saying on April 18.

One of our most important concerns is the illegal migration of Iranian nationals to Australia through contraband networks, Zarif said, emphasizing the need to deal with the issue.

Bishop, for her part, said she discussed the IS(Islamic State) conflict and asylum seeker issues, as well as human rights with her Iranian counterpart.

Iran and Australia have a significant trading history and the lifting of sanctions on Iran could create new opportunities for Australian business.
