Iran says no need for unconventional weapons

Iran's Army Commander Major General Ahmadreza Pourdastan has said that the Islamic Republic's power is based on rich culture and domestic expertise, free of the need for unconventional weapons.

The Islamic Republic of Iran maintains that faulty approaches and excessive demands do not help the critical regional situation, but will create more trouble, he said, IRIB news agency reported April 21.

Pointing to regional crises such as the recent developments on Yemen, Pourdastan said Iran offers its entire capabilities to help settle regional issues.

"However, some countries which claim to be human rights defendants do not desire doing so that much," he said.

He asserted that according to Islamic decrees (fatwas), the use of mass destruction weapons is against human principles. Our armed forces believe that by relying on the power of faith and using indigenous, new weapons, they can meet all sorts of attacks, he maintained.

The Iranian commander went on to assert that Iran's armed forces are willing to work closely with the armed forces of all regional countries.

In the past decades, Iran has been boosting its military power by tapping indigenous talents. Under international pressure, the Islamic Republic has succeeded in developing various types of missiles, unmanned aviation vehicles, radar systems, etc. through domestic knowhow.

While world powers worry about the country's growing military power, Tehran maintains that its military capabilities serve regional peace.
