Blocking Iran deal by US Congress would be a big mistake, Araqchi says

Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Sunday that a possible blocking of Iran deal by US Congress would be a big mistake which would bring the international credibility of the US administration under question.

Araqchi, who was speaking to Al-Alam News Network, said he preferred to wait and see what the US Congress will finally decide and to let the implementation of the deal go through its legal procedure in Iran.

However, he said that if the US Congress blocks the deal, anti-Iran sanctions will lose their legitimacy.

Asked whether Iran will resume its suspended nuclear activities if the Congress refuses to approve Iran deal, Araqchi said, 'You cannot judge it now. Let's be optimistic that the deal will be approved by all the parties.'

He said that also in Iran, the Parliament is thoroughly scrutinizing the deal and has discussed the implementation of the agreement in several sessions and will have other sessions in this regard in the future.
