A crew member of the Arvand Petrochemical Complex died and another was poisoned after gas leaked in a section of the facilities, Public Relations Director of the complex Ebrahim Chegini said.

He added the reason for the leakage is under investigation and will be announced as soon as found out, IRNA news agency reported August 28.

The Arvand Petrochemical Company is situated in Mahshahr Special Economic Zone and is one of Iran's biggest producers of PVC.

Petrochemical job hazards have taken more lives in recent months in Iran.

Less than two months ago parts of Maroon Petrochemical Company caught fire, which was stopped when one of the crew was quick enough to shut a main gas supply pipe.

The man himself died a few days later of the burns he had suffered during the incident.

A few months earlier, hydrogen sulfide and sulfur leakage at Shazand refinery in Arak _ central Iranian city _ led to the death of four workers.

A report said last Iranian year (which ended March 20), Iran's work-related deaths hit 121, while another 18,916 people took injuries during the same period.

Of the injured, 17,551 are now fully healed while 458 have been amputated. 786 of them received cash compensation.
