Iranian MPs gave their vote in favor of Roads and Urban Development Minister Abbas Akhoundi at the end of an open session on Oct. 6 for his impeachment.

Akhoundi received 175 votes in support, meanwhile 72 MPs voted for his dismissal and five abstentions, which means the lawmakers were convinced by the minister's responses, Iran 's State IRINN TV reported.

According to the Iran 's constitution, the impeachment motion should have at least ten signatures on it before it can be delivered to the parliament's presiding board. The minister must appear in parliament to answer MPs' questions within 10 days after the receipt of the motion, and then the impeachment motion will be put to a vote.

The impeachment proceeding against Akhoundi was approved with 13 signatures.

The minister was impeached for not fulfilling his promised plans, problems related to roads and urban development, rural housing projects, as well as financial deficits of the ministry.
