The Iranian parliament approved details of a disputed bill on implementing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
The bill called "Iranian government's reciprocal and proportional action in implementing the JCPOA" voted in favor by 161 MPs, 59 voted against and 13 more abstained. The ratification took place in an open session Oct. 13, Iran's State IRINN TV reported.
The bill will be forwarded to Iran's Guardian Council, which reviews the bill, to determine whether it violates the Constitution and the Islamic laws.
Generalities of the bill were already passed in the parliament on Oct. 11 during a session which held under intense debates between the opposing MPs.
The bill will allow the government to take some measures in line with the constitution and the country's red lines regarding the JCPOA.
The JCPOA was reached between Iran and the P5+1 (the US, the UK, France, Russia, China and Germany) on July 14. It will curb Iran's nuclear program in return for lifting economic sanctions.
The Supreme National Security Council, as the highest source of decision making for political and military affairs, has already approved the JCPOA. However Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's point of view was that the parliament should also take decision in this regard.
Iran's deputy foreign minister Abbas Araqchi said that Iran most likely will start implementing the JCPOA from Oct. 19.
Araqchi, who heads a ministerial committee on implementation of the JCPOA, said that the 90-day period for studying the deal will be expired on Oct. 18, and if legal procedures are finalized the sides can enter implementation phase by Oct. 12.
