Iran has no plan to send warships to Syria, Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said.

He made the remarks while responding a question about dispatching warships to Syrian port of Tartous to participate in possible anti-IS (Islamic State militant group aka ISIS/ISIL) efforts.

'We have not had any plan for sending warships to Tartous, but we are ready for any operations," Sayyari said, Iran's YJC news agency reported Nov. 22.

He further said that no cruise missiles have been launched against the IS targets in Syria from the Iran's territorial waters on the Caspian Sea.

Iran fully controls its 20 percent share of the sea and the missiles have been fired out of the territory, Sayyari said.

Russia on Nov. 20 unleashed 18 cruise missiles from warships in the Caspian Sea at targets across Syria, the country's defense minister Sergei Shoigu said.

It was the second time that warships have been used since the start of the Russia's air strikes against the "terrorist" groups in Syria on September 30.

Sayyari also touched upon the Islamic Republic's scheduled naval drills in the coming months, saying the Navy plans to stage military drills dubbed 'Velayat 94' early 2016.

The Navy would also hold drills including air-navy exercises, special operations, submarine and missile drills in December, he added.

He noted that Iran and Oman plan to hold a joint rescue maneuver in December.

The Iranian commander further said that the navy is after expanding its presence in high seas, including Atlantic Ocean and Asian southeast seas.
