Tehran, Iran, December 19

By Mehdi Sepahvand -- Trend:

Relations between France and the Islamic Republic of Iran will intensify, French Senate President Gerard Larcher said.

He made the statement in a joint press conference with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in Tehran, adding that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is scheduled to visit Paris on January 27, IRNA news agency reported December 19.

"I hope that Mr. Rouhani's trip comes when Iran is completely free of sanctions and a new era has begun," Larcher stated.

He added that besides bilateral relations, he and Larijani had discussed the Syrian crisis earlier.

"The president is responsible for France's foreign policy and I have not visited Iran without prior talks with the president," Larcher said while answering a question about France's approach to the Syrian crisis.

On the economic arena, statistics related to the first seven months of the current Iranian fiscal year (since March 21), Iran imported $415 million worth non-oil goods from France with 22 percent growth compared to the same period of the preceding year.
