Terrorist groups sometimes become active along the country's south western borders which are repelled by Iranian border guards, Iranian Police chief Brig-Gen Hossein Ashtari said.
Brig-Gen Hossein Ashtari assured that the terrorists will be tackled if they appear in other parts of the country adding that the country's borders are secure. He further spoke about police special forces and said that they are well equipped and prepared to tackle the terrorists. He said that police and army will stage war games in future aimed at exercising anti-terror tactics.
He also spoke about the upcoming elections in the county and said his forces will provide the security of the ballot boxes. Iranians will elect both law makers for parliament and clerics for the Assembly of Experts, on the same day on 26 February. Earlier on 20 December, Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said that three individuals had crossed Iranian borders planning to explode a holy Shia shrine in Mashhad City, a place in Qom City and the venue of Friday Prayer in Tehran.
However later on Dec. 21, an official with the Iranian interior ministry, Hossein Zolfaqari, denied Hashemi Rafsanjani's remarks.
