Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 27

By Khalid Kazimov - Trend:

Iranian foreign ministry's spokesman, Hossein Jaber Ansari, has rejected a recent statement by the Arab League Council of Foreign Ministers accusing Tehran of intervention in the domestic affairs of Arab countries.

Describing the claim as false and unconstructive, Hossein Jaber Ansari told reporters that Iran enjoys friendly ties with most Arab states, Fars news agency reported.

During their recent meeting on Dec. 24 in Cairo, the Arab foreign ministers warned against Iran's "interfering" in Arab countries and described it as a "grave threat" to the regional peace and security.

Jaberi added that Iran has an important role in maintaining security in the region and Tehran will continue its constructive role in decreasing tensions and crisis in the region, despite certain countries' unfriendly approach.

Iran's relations with several Arab states, particularly, with Saudi Arabia have deteriorated following the outbreak of crisis in Syria, Iraq and Yemen.

Tehran has consistently expressed support for the Syrian government, since it views the government of Bashar al-Assad as its main strategic ally in the region and part of an "axis of resistance" against Israel.

Earlier, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei announced that his country will support the oppressed people in Bahrain, Palestine, Yemen, Iraq and Syria.
