Tehran, Iran, February 15

By Mehdi Sepahvand - Trend:

Iran has excluded nine countries from its "visa on arrival" service, said Hossein Jaber Ansari, the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman.

Iran visa on arrival (VOA) or Iran airport visa, refers to that kind of Iran visa received by nationals of foreign countries. Iran visa on arrival has 14 days validity and issued at the six airports in Iran.

Speaking at the press conference, Ansari noted that the nine countries, the citizens of which will not be granted visas upon arrival, will be revealed later, Trend's correspondent reported from the event.

Ansari said the move is aimed at boosting Iran's tourism industry. He noted the nationals of the nine exceptions will receive visas via "special procedures".

Previously, the Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that Iran now issues visas on arrival to nationals of 180 countries.

Meanwhile, the UK has announced readiness to issue visas to Iranian nationals in Tehran within the next three weeks, Ansari said back on Feb. 8.

The UK embassy in Iran reopened on August 23 after a 4-year closure. The closure followed attack of protestors on the premises in 2011.
