President Hassan Rouhani said on Sunday that the Syrian nation's determination is the criteria for building that country's future status and that territorial integrity of Syria, and all other countries should be respected, Irna reported.
President Rouhani made the comment in reply to a reporter who had asked: Russia has presented a plan for establishment of a federal political system in Syria, while the Americans' plan is based on the Syrian disintegration.
'What is your evaluation of these two plans? Is Tehran still fully agreed with Moscow's moves on Syria?' added the reporter.
'Do not disturb our relations with our neighbor, Russia,' said President Rouhani with a broad smile.
'We enjoy good relations with Russia as we share thoughts and are harmonized in policymakings, but that does not mean that anything Russia does is approved by Iran,' he added.
President Rouhani further stressed that Tehran is in touch with Russia both through the phone calls and via the delegations that are often frequenting between the two countries' capital cities.
'The main objective of the interactions, especially during the recent past, has been returning the normal life for the Syrian people and putting an end to the war in their country,' he added.
Rouhani said that Iran's other main objective in Syria is campaign against terrorism and kicking the terrorists out of that war torn country, so that the Syrian people's will should become the basis for constructing Syria's future.
'We have clearly told Syria's friends and neighbors, as well as Russia, that the territorial integrity of the regional countries must be respected, either in case of Iraq, or in case of Syria, or any other regional country, the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the countries are important for us,' he said.
The head of the Supreme National Security Council further emphasized: Therefore, we believe in Syria's unity and territorial integrity are important and it is necessary to observe a just truce in Syria as soon a possible and simultaneously the campaign against terrorism should continue with appropriate measures for further developments there, including reforms in the constitution and future elections based on the people's will.
