Iran has lashed out at Ahmed Shaheed, the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, saying that the extension of his mission is an unnecessary and illegitimate move.
"The decision was politically motivated and based on hostilities towards the Islamic Republic, IRNA quoted the Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari as saying.
Referring to the support of some countries like Saudi Arabia, western states, and human right-related resolution against Iran in the UN, Ansari said that said that West has clearly used the Human Rights Council as a tool.
During a session of the UN Human Rights Council On March 14, Shaheed raised claims about the "extremely high rate of executions", especially for "juvenile offenders", and "fundamental flaws" in Iran's judiciary system.
Special rapporteurs are appointed by the Human Rights Council to examine and report back on a country situation or a specific human rights issue.
