Gunmen kill policemen in southeastern Iran
Baku, Azerbaijan, Apr. 27
By Fatih Karimov - Trend:
Three Iranian policemen were killed in an armed attack Nov. 26 night near Khash city of the country's southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province.
Commander of Sistan and Baluchestan province police, Brigadier General Hossein Rahimi said that the attack took place at a police checkpoint, Iran's Fars news agency reported.
Unknown gunmen inside a car shelled the police officers, Rahimi said, adding a policeman also was injured in the attack.
Following the assault, Iranian security forces launched an operation in the region to arrest the attackers.
In recent years, various armed attacks were carried out on the local police offices by extremist groups, who claim they're fighting against the Iranian government for protection of Sunni residents of the province.
