Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has accepted the resignation of Mohammad Sarafraz, head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).

Expressing appreciation for Sarafraz's efforts, Khamenei appointed Ali Asgari, the former IRIB deputy head for technical issues, as the organization's new head, the state-run IRINN TV reported May 11.

In 2014, Sarafraz replaced Ezatollah Zarghami as the IRIB head. Zarghami held the position for 10 years.

Sarfaraz also served as the IRIB deputy head for the foreign-language broadcasting for the last 20 years.
