The 14th summit of the Asian member states of Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) has kicked off in Tehran.
Iran's deputy foreign minister, Abbas Aragchi, alongside with 45 representatives from 25 Asian countries will attend the three-day summit in Tehran to discuss implementation of the CWC, IRNA news agency reported.
Iran and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) will host the summit.
According to the website of Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, The Convention aims to eliminate an entire category of weapons of mass destruction by prohibiting the development, production, acquisition, stockpiling, retention, transfer or use of chemical weapons by States Parties.
States Parties, in turn, must take the steps necessary to enforce that prohibition in respect of persons (natural or legal) within their jurisdiction.
The OPCW is the implementing body of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), which entered into force in 1997.
