Commander Fidel Castro’s campaign against domineering power will go down in history, wrote Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif signing a guestbook at the Cuban Ambassador to Iran’s residence, during a ceremony to commemorate the late Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro.

Zarif wrote a note of condolence on behalf of Iran to Cuba, referring to Castro as “The great leader of the revolution of the people of Cuba, who played a big role in freedom seeking and arrogance fighting in Latin America.”

“The government and people of Iran will always stand by the government and people of Cuba,” he added.

Castro died on November 26 at the age of 90.

He famously led a guerrilla campaign that gained popular support and ousted US-backed Cuban dictator General Fulgencio Batista on January 1, 1959.
