By Khalid Kazimov – Trend:

A senior Iranian security official has criticized a recent UN Security Council resolution on mass evacuations from the rebel-held eastern Aleppo in Syria.

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani has said the resolution paves the way for the supporters of the “terrorists” to arrive in Aleppo, IRNA news agency reported.

The resolution has failed to give priority to rescuing and supplying aid to the people trapped in the area besieged by “terrorists”, he added.

The resolution has only envisaged the evacuation of armed individuals from the city, the official added.

The UN Security Council on Dec. 19 passed a resolution calling on UN officials and others to monitor the mass evacuations from eastern Aleppo and the safety of civilians still there.

According to Western sources, there are still about 7,000 people in Aleppo, while about 13,000 people have left the area over the past several days.

Rebels took control of eastern parts of Aleppo in 2012. The latest media reports suggest that Syrian army has advanced through the rebel-held areas, though the rebels reportedly continued to resist in some parts of the city.
