Law Enforcement Force of Islamic Republic of Iran has joined the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) plan of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Since police is in charge of issuing passports in Iran, it joined the international body as representative of the country, Iran's IRNA News Agency reported on Jan. 25.

Iran is the45th member of the plan.

PKI validation does not require or involve any exchange of the personal data of passport holders, and the validation transactions help combat identity fraud.

The International Civil Aviation Organization, is a specialized agency of the United Nations. It codifies the principles and techniques of international air navigation and fosters the planning and development of international air transport to ensure safe and orderly growth. Its headquarters are located in the Quartier International of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
