Iranian experts at a knowledge-based company managed to manufacture Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) filters for the first time in the country.

EMP filters provide the country's sensitive and vital systems with protection against electromagnetic pulse attacks.

Saeed Rahimi, the director of the Kowsar Telecommunications and Information Technology Group, said that the product has received security licenses from related bodies, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on June 13.

EMP filters had not been permitted to be imported because of the international sanctions, he noted.

"Although the country has not been faced with such attacks so far, but it is a potential threat. So, all important organizations should take measures to protect their systems from such attacks."

EMP interference is generally disruptive or damaging to electronic equipment. It is also sometimes called as the transient electromagnetic disturbance. It is a short burst of electromagnetic energy.
