Iran has launched its first national oil recovery ship in the southern port of Bandar Abbas on June 14 to collect seawater polluted by oil.
The pollution control vessel dubbed Darya Pak 1 was made by Iran's Bahr Gostaresh Hormoz Company in four years under the order of the Islamic Republic's Ports and Maritime Organization with the aim of supporting internal maritime industries.
The ship was planned to be manufactured in two years based on the signed agreement, meanwhile the process delayed due to international sanctions imposed on Iran over its disputed nuclear program, Abbas Raeisi, the managing director of the Bahr Gostaresh Hormoz company said, Iran's Mehr news agency reported June 14.
Darya Pak 1 has the capacity to displace 550 cubic meters of spilt oil. Its dimension is 55 meters length and 13 meters width.
The ship has a waterline of 4 meters and speeds up to 16 knots.
