Four US soldiers were captured by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in 2003 and were released after four days, IRGC lieutenant commander, Navy General Alireza Tangsiri told Fars News Agency Oct. 12.

"In 2003, four US and two Kuwaiti soldiers were intending to enter the Arvand Rud River (Shatt al-Arab) on two boats with lots of weapons and ammunition," he said. "We arrested them."

Tangsiri also noted that the arrest of the American and Kuwaiti soldiers, and their weaponry were filmed, however the footage wasn't released at the time due to security reasons.

The general also recalled that British soldiers too were two times caught by the IRGC.

However he didn't elaborate on the date when those British soldiers were captured, their number and how long they were held in detainment.

He added that the IRGC had to release those captured in 2003 due to the political situation in the country.

"We returned the US soldiers' boats to them, but kept the boats, all the weaponry and equipment of the other two British groups, detained by us," said Tangsiri.
