At least six individuals have been killed in the western Iranian province of Kermanshah following a massive earthquake in the frontier areas of the country with Iraq.

The governor of the western Iranian city of Qaser-e Shirin, Faramarz Akbari, told rolling news TV channel IRINN that the quake has left at least six killed and more injured in the city.

The official also added that several villages near the city have suffered damages.

The authorities have said that rescue workers have been dispatched to the earthquake-hit areas in the country.

In the meantime, power and water outage have been reported in the area.

The earthquake hit large parts of Iraq and Iran including the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Sunday evening.

The US Geological Survey put the quake at 7.3 magnitudes, which placed the epicenter southwest of the city of Halabja along the Iraq-Iran border, Reuters reported.
