A 6.2 magnitude earthquake which had jolted Iran’s central area near the city of Kerman early Friday did not claim any lives, local authorities say.

Around a dozen were injured, but 250 more were taken to hospital due to mental shock, authorities told local media outlets.

Also, fearing shortage of fuel, people drove to gas stations in the area, forming long queues in the early hours of the day.

The strong, 6.3 magnitude earthquake was followed by a 5.1 aftershock.

The epicenter of the quake was located about 36 miles northeast of the city of Kerman in a sparsely populated area of the country.

The quake also left 250 households without electricity, but authorities said power would be restored by evening.

The public shock of the today’s earthquake was more due to a recent one in western Iran, around Kermanshah, which killed as many as 444 on November 11. The magnitude of that quake was 7.3.

The Kermanshah quake injured 12,386 others, and damaged at least 31,000 residential buildings in the province either majorly or in part.
