By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

Over the past two years, the number of women infected with HIV in Iran has increased 10 times, Minoo Mohraz, chief at Iranian Research Center for HIV/AIDS, said in an interview with IRNA, Trend reports.

He said that the majority of people infected with HIV in the country are 25-40 years old. The lack of information in this area and lack of training have led to an increase in the disease, he noted.

The level of public awareness in this area should be increased, he added.

AIDS is an infectious disease and can be controlled by treatment, but many people are afraid of it, he said, adding that presently, this infection is mainly transmitted due to sexual intercourse.

“The spread of this disease was once primarily due to drug addiction, and it was controlled very well with the implementation of the program,” he said.
