Coronavirus situation under control in Iran - Rouhani

TEHRAN, Iran, Aug. 3

Iran is controlling coronavirus spread and is surpassing the peak except for two provinces, said Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

"The Health Ministry's report from Mazandaran, Fars and Khuzestan provinces shows the situation has improved compared to previous week and people are following health protocols," said Rouhani, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"It is important to resist both sanctions and coronavirus. The National Headquarter to Fight Coronavirus continues to provide report every Saturday, while the government will inaugurate new projects every Thursday related to support businesses and employment," the head of state said.

The Health Ministry has announced 2,598 new cases of infection have been identified in last 24 hour and 215 people lost their lives. So far, over 312,000 people have been infected, and 17,405 people have already died. Meanwhile, over 270,200 have reportedly recovered from the disease.​

Earlier, the Health Ministry's spokesperson said Tehran, Mazandaran, Golestan , Fars, East Azerbaijan, Ardabil, Isfahan, Alborz, Ilam, Khorasan Razavi, Kerman, North Khorasan, Semnan, Lorestan and Hormozgan provinces are considered 'red' zones.
