Iran has the exclusive jurisdiction to legally pursue the case of the Ukrainian plane crash, said the Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman.
"The Iranian government is responsible to follow this issue according to the technical framework and would not allow it to be politicized," said Saeed Khatibzadeh, Trend reports citing IRNA.
"Iran has the exclusive jurisdiction to prosecute perpetrators of this incident and the military prosecutor has started the action. The suspects of the case have been arrested and the issue is being pursued according to regulations. We had judicial assistance from Ukraine during negotiations and there have been talks about technical law with the Ukrainian side," he said.
Foreign Ministry stated that it was expected that the third round of talks with Ukraine would be held in November but the date was not finalized by Kyiv.
"We should have submitted our technical reports according to article 13 of the Chicago Convention. The report was officially sent to beneficiary countries on December 9, 2020, by serious efforts of the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran via video conference. The beneficiary countries have 60 days to provide their comments on the report and afterward, the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran could complete its report and submit it," the spokesman noted.
"The approach of some countries indicate that they are not seeking to solve the issue and want to politicize it, it is not right to use political pressures in a big incident like this, the judicial proceeding of the issue should be fair and accurate, Iran has even discussed the compensation payment but the Ukrainian side did not comment on it," he added.
Iran has allocated $150,000 for the families of each of the 176 victims of the Ukraine International Airlines plane shot down in Iranian airspace by mistake on Jan 8, 2020.
