Iraqi authorities did not let Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz's aircraft land in Erbil yesterday, Timeturk online newspaper reported on Tuesday with reference to diplomatic sources.

According to the newspaper, Yildiz was going to attend energy conference, which was held in Erbil yesterday.

Tension has been observed in relations between Iraq and Turkey in recent years. Earlier, Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said that Turkey is becoming an enemy to all states in the region because of its attempts to "dominate" and "interfere in the affairs of its neighbours".

In response, Erdogan said that Iraq must first sort out its internal affairs, and then blame neighbouring countries in hostility.

Energy cooperation between Turkey and the Kurdish autonomy also intensifies the tension.
