Assembly of the Friends of Azerbaijan (AFAZ), operating in the U.S, held an event on "Southern Gas Corridor and its role in ensuring the energy security of Europe".
The event focused on the Southern Gas Corridor, in which Azerbaijan participates, and the strategic importance of this project, in particular, for the countries covered by the project and the significant contribution that this project will make to Europe's energy security.
The cooperation was also emphasized within this project. This information was brought to the U.S political circles and public, the Azerbaijani embassy in the U.S told Trend on Friday.
Over 20 members of the U.S House of Representatives and the Senate, representatives of the U.S. State Department, diplomats accredited in Washington, experts of influential analytical centers and media representatives attended the event.
The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) president Rovnag Abdullayev is on a working visit to the U.S. While delivering speech at the event, he said that the U.S support played a significant role in the progress that has been achieved in the Southern Gas Corridor.
Abdullayev said that this project will not only provide Europe with alternative energy, but also support the economic development of the continent.
Senator Mike Crapo, Congressman Mike Turner, Congressman Xavier Becerra, Congressman Robert Aderholt, Congressman Henry Cuellar, Congressman Leonard Lance, Congressman Gene Green, Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, Congresswoman Grace Meng, Congressman Ruben Hinojosa, Congressman Matt Cartwright, Congresswoman Yvette Clark, Congressman Bill Cassidy, Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick, Congressman Steve Stockman and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee delivered speech at the event and described Azerbaijan as a close friend and a reliable ally of the United States. They appreciated Azerbaijan's contribution in Europe's energy security and approved Azerbaijan's energy policy, especially the use of proceeds from energy for the development of various spheres of life.
