(Cihan) - Turkey's national carrier Turkish Airlines (THY) is set to join Star Alliance, one of the leading groups of international airlines, as a part of its global expansion plans.
The CEO's of the aviation companies and members of Star Alliance, the biggest airway alliance in the world, convene in Istanbul.
The meeting will be hosted by Turkish Airlines on December 8-9. A memorandum of understanding, the contract that will include THY in the group of Star Alliance, is going to be signed on Saturday in Istanbul, reports Trend.
Star Alliance, which has world's leading carriers such as Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, Air Canada, Thai and United Airlines among others as its members, holds 25 percent of the global airline market with a turnover of around $100 billion and sales revenue of $400 million a year.
The giant group carries 425 million passengers a year and realizes more than 15.500 flights a day. Employing 360,000 personnel, the members of the group fly to 842 destinations in 152 countries.
