Prices and situation in consumer market in Azerbaijan (January-June 2010)

In January-June 2010, a rise of the retail goods turnover got restored amid continuing rise of the community services and was 9.0%. The amount of retail goods turnover comprised AZN 8285.0mln. In particular, 72.4% accounted for retail trade, 27.6% - paid services.

In January-June 2010 trading networks of Azerbaijan sold population consumer goods at 6258.6 million manat, which is 8.4% more than 2009. Legal entities provided 14.1% of turnover, fairs and markets - 41.6%, individual entrepreneurs - 43.6%.

In January-June 2010, every citizen of the country acquired consumer goods and paid services at 154.7 manat that is 10.8 percent higher than 2009. 

In January-June 2010 commercial services to population made up 2026.4 million manat, or up 10.5 percent. Individual entrepreneurs provided 71.6% of services, legal entities - 28.4%, with growth of 10.7% and 10.1% respectively.

Prices

In January-June, the prices for consumer goods and tariffs for services declined 0.6 percent compared with the previous month, and compared to January-June 2009 grew by 4.9 percent (data from State Statistics Committee).

The prices for food products in June dropped 1.1 percent compared to May, non-food products remained unchanged, and tariffs for service rose 0.1%. 

Compared with January-June 2009, food prices grew by 4.6 percent, non-food products - 1.8 percent, and tariffs for the service sector - 8.1 percent.

In June 2010, the base index of the consumer prices incurring seasonal changes (fruits and vegetable) and being regulated by the Government rose by 0.1% as compared to the previous month, and 2.4% to 2009.    

As compared to the previous month, in June 2010 the index of industrial goods price decreased 4.8%, but rose 55.5% compared to the same period of the last year.

The price in oil and gas production decreased 7.1% in June compared to previous month, but rose 72.7% in January-June compared to the same period of 2009.

The prices in refining chemical products increased 0.1% in the month and growth totaled 9.1% at annualized pace.

In June, the prices in metallurgy decreased 0.3 percent compared to the previous month, but rose 23.3% at annualized pace. The prices for electricity, gas and water remained unchanged compared to previous month, and during the year.
