Total crop production fell by 5.8 percent, but livestock rose by 2.8 percent in Azerbaijan in the first half of 2010 compared to the same period of last year. Agricultural production in January-June in general declined by one percent.  

As of June 21, spring plants were sown in the territory of 375,700 ha or 5.2 percent more than last year.

Torrential rains that have been observed in the country in recent months had a negative impact on agricultural production.

According to the latest data as of July 5, 1,268,800 tons of grain have been harvested from the territory of 938,400 hectares of land (20.5 tons per hectare), which is 410,900 tons less than the same period of last year.

In addition to grain, 245,000 tons of potatoes (with a decline of 5.7 percent), 280,100 tons of vegetables (an increase of 3.3 percent), 16,000 tons of melons products and others have been harvested.

During this period, 257 tons of green tea leaves have been collected, which is 0.8 percent lower than in the first half of 2009.

In January-June, 149,200 tons of livestock and poultry meat, 739,700 tons of milk and 610.7 million chicken eggs, 13,200 tons of wool were produced in the country. As of the first half of 2009, meat production increased by 1,900 tons or 1.3 percent, milk - 39,156 tons, or 5.6 percent, and wool - 176 tons or 1.4 percent. Production of eggs decreased by 3.4 million units or 0.5 percent.  

The agricultural production amounted to 1.306 billion manat, a decrease of 1.0 percent compared to the same period of the last year. The cost of forestry products at the actual prices for the reported period amounted to 676,700 manat compared to 659,300 manat in the same period of last year, fishery - 58,000 manat compared to 82,900 manat.

Meat production in June 2010 totaled 29,100 tons as compared to 24,700 tons in May, 24,466 tons in January 2010, 26,300 tons in December and 27,300 in June 2009. In January-June, meat produced totaled 149,200 tons, 1.3 percent increase from production in the same period in 2009 (147,300 tons).

Milk production in January-June 2010 made up 739,700 tons (5.6 percent) compared to 700,600 tons during the same period and 1,433,100 tons for whole 2009, eggs - 610.7 million units (-0.5 percent) compared to 614.1 million units and 1,209,400 units respectively.

In January-June, wool production totaled 13,200 tons, which is 1.4 percent more than production during the same period of 2009 (13 tons). In 2009 wool production totaled 15,300 tons compared to 14,800 tons last year (3.3 percent).

In June, the production prices for agricultural products in Azerbaijan decreased by 0.2%.

During the month, production prices for crops and melons decreased by 0.3 percent, prices of livestock have remained at the level of May.

During this period, prices for citrus decreased by 5.4 percent, nuts - 0.1 percent, cereals - by 0.6 percent, vegetables - 1.1 percent.

Production prices for cattle products increased by 1%, sheep - 8.7 percent, poultry meat - 0.2 percent, eggs - 2.6 percent.
