Iran, Turkey trade value nears $19 billion

Iran-turkey trade value in the first nine months of 2012 stood at 18.78 billion dollars, showing a 55 per cent increase in comparison to the same period last year.

Turkey imported 9.78 billion dollars' worth of goods from Iran and exported 9.2 billion dollars in goods to the Islamic Republic during the aforementioned period, the IRNA News Agency reported.

Recent statistics show that the Islamic Republic of Iran was Turkey's third major trade partner in the first three quarters of 2012, Press TV reported on November 2.

Turkey's imports from Iran hit their highest monthly total in March 2012 with over 1.63 billion US dollars.

Meanwhile, highest monthly exports from Turkey to Iran were recorded in July 2012 with a total of more than 2.15 billion US dollars.

Iran and Turkey have sharply increased the level of their trade ties over the past few years.

In 2000, the level of the bilateral trade stood at around one billion dollars, but in 2010, exceeded 10 billion dollars. The figure reached 15 billion dollars last year.

The two sides seek to raise the value of their bilateral trade to 30 billion dollars by 2015.
