Minister: Azerbaijan's sustainable economic development creates conditions for further improvement of population's living standards

Azerbaijan's sustainable economic development has created the conditions for further improving the population's living standards, Azerbaijani Economic Development Minister Shahin Mustafayev said at a conference on the fourth year of executing the "State program on socio-economic development of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2009-2013".

"The population's income increased by 13.8 percent compared to the same period of last year, income growth exceeded inflation by about 13 percentage points," he said. "During the year, some 117,000 new jobs, including 93,000 permanent and 5,400 enterprises were created. "State program of socio-economic development in 2009-2013", as well as other state programs, play a special role in achieving this success."

"As always, the president focused on the program execution and development of the regions during numerous trips to every region and acquainted with the conducted work," minister said. "The president signed around 64 orders to allocate additional funds at the amount of 232.5 million manat."

"Some 5 billion manat, as well as within the Public Investment Program - 4.1 billion manat, which is 72 percent of the total amount were directed to the fixed assets to fulfill the work envisaged by the program last year," minister said.

Two hydroelectric power stations were commissioned, 935 transformers and 29 substations were built or repaired in the regions for providing the population with electric power in an uninterrupted and qualitative manner last year, he said.

Around 537 kilometers of local roads were built or repaired, 25 new bridges and tunnels were built during a year within the program.

Around 205 schools, 45 nursery schools, 40 health facilities, 23 sports and 48 cultural facilities were built or repaired in the regions during a year.

Further improvement of business and investment sphere, legislation, using tax incentives, expanding state support for entrepreneurship have contributed to the development of the regions last year, he said.
