General economic situation in Azerbaijan (January-November 2013)

Azerbaijan's GDP total volume amounted to 52.1 billion manat in January-November 2013, which exceeds the figure by 5.7 percent in the same period of 2012. GDP per capita increased by 4.3 percent to 5604.2 manat ($7142.8) per year.

During the reporting period, some 63.5 percent of Azerbaijan's GDP was formed in production, about 46.5 percent in industry, 11.7 percent in construction, 5.3 percent in agriculture, forestry and fishing. About 30.2 percent of the gross product was created in the service sector.

Net taxes on production and imports amounted to 6.3 percent of Azerbaijan's GDP.

According to the State Statistics Committee, some 7.1 percent of GDP in the service sector fell to the trade and repair of vehicles, 5.4 percent to transport and warehousing, 2.1 percent to tourist accommodation and catering, 1.7 percent to information and communication services, 13.9 percent to social and other service spheres.

The State Statistics Committee said that the non-oil sector increased by 9.5 percent compared to the same period of 2012 and its share in the country's GDP amounted to 56 percent. The volume of production of value added in the sphere of oil and gas production amounted to 44 percent of GDP.

The volume of production of value added in the sphere of construction in Azerbaijan increased by 23.5 percent, tourist accommodation and catering - 18.2 percent, trade and repair of vehicles - 9.7 percent, information and communication services - 9.4 percent, forestry and fishery - 4.8 percent, transport and warehousing - 5.3 percent, social and other services - 3.9 percent in January-November 2013 compared to the same period of 2012.

The industrial production volume hit 30.792 million manat or $39.255 billion in Azerbaijan in January-November 2013. This is by 1.7 percent more than in January-November 2012. The annual growth of industrial production for the first time in 2013 was fixed in June.

The industrial production volume was 2.753.5 billion manat in November 2013 compared to 2.742.7 billion manat in October.

The industrial production volume in the state sector made 5.687.7 billion manat with a 5.3 percent growth in January -November 2013, while in the private sector - 25.104.2 billion manat with a 0.9 percent increase. The public sector share accounted for 18.6 percent of the total industrial output, while the private sector - 81.5 percent.

The production in the mining industry in January - November (22.839.8 billion manat) amounted to 74.2 percent of total industrial production, in the manufacturing industry (6.184.2 billion manat) - 20.1 percent, in the power engineering and gas sector - 1.568.1 billion manat or 5.1 percent and the remaining volume (199.9 million manat or 0.6 percent) fell to the water supply, wastewater treatment and solid waste utilization. The mining industry production increased by 1 percent , the manufacturing sector - 5.2 percent, in the power engineering and gas sector - 2.9 percent, in water supply and waste disposal - 10.3 percent.

The goods were produced and services were rendered to the amount of 361.4 million manat by the steel industry and the enterprises producing finished metal products in Azerbaijan in January-November 2013. According to the report, the volume of production in the steel industry increased by 2.5 percent, while the production of finished products declined by 51 percent compared to the same period of 2012.

Azerbaijan has started industrial production of gold since July 2009. It ensured gold production growth by 6.3 percent with an increase in silver production by 12.2 percent in January-November 2013. The country produced 2,118 kilograms of precious metals (169.4 kg in November) in January- November 2013 or by 7.7 percent more than their production in January-November 2012. The production was 1,505 kg of gold (140.7 kg in November) and 613 kg of silver (28.7 kg) in January-November.

Agricultural output at current prices amounted to 4.900 billion manat in Azerbaijan in January - November or by 4.8 percent more compared to the same period of 2012. The growth of crop production was 4 percent, livestock production - 5.5 percent.

According to the State Statistics Committee, the Azerbaijani trading networks sold consumer goods to the population at 17.224.9 billion manat in January-November 2013, which is 9.7 percent more than in January-November 2012. Legal entities ensured 12 percent of trade turnover, individual entrepreneurs - 49.9 percent, fairs and markets - 37.9 percent.

According to the State Statistics Committee, in November 2013, the prices on consumer goods and tariffs on services increased by 0.7 percent compared to the previous month and by 2.3 percent in January-November 2013 in accordance with January-November 2012.

Thus, inflation in Azerbaijan, which is one of the indices of macroeconomic stability, hit only 2.3 percent in January-November 2013.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, the nominal income of the population totaled 32.257.9 billion manat in January-November 2013, which is 7.9 percent more compared to January-November 2012.

Thus, during this period, the nominal income of the population per capita increased by 6.5 percent and hit 3.471.7 manat.

As of December 1, 2013, around 36,467 people were officially registered as unemployed in Azerbaijan, including 41.4 percent of women, compared to 36,749 citizens a month earlier and 36,791 as of the beginning of the year. Thus, the number of unemployed decreased by 282 people in November and by 324 people since early 2013.

The foreign trade turnover with 148 world countries amounted to $31.72 billion in January-November 2013, or 3.86 percent more than in January-November 2012. The volume of exports decreased by 0.46 percent to $21.99 billion compared to the same period of 2012. The volume of import increased by 15.17 percent and hit $9.73 billion. Azerbaijan exported 2,031 products, and imported 6,051 different goods. As of Jan.-Nov. 2013, the nominal index of export exceeded import. This formed the foreign trade surplus to the amount of $12 billion.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, around 14.5 billion manat was invested from all financial sources in the development of the economic and social areas of Azerbaijan in January-November 2013, which is by 14.8 percent more than in the same period of 2012. It indicates sustainable investment activity in the country. In particular, around 1.502.4 billion manat were invested in the Azerbaijani economy in November 2013, which is by 1.5 percent more than investments in fixed assets in November 2012.

Manat exchange rate remained stable. In November 2013, average rate of manat to the U.S. dollar was 0.78 manat per dollar, to euro - 1.06 manat per euro, to Russian rouble - 2.40 manat per 100 rouble.
