Prices and situation in consumer market in Azerbaijan (january-june 2015)

The consumer market (internal trade turnover) amounted to 59.5 percent of Azerbaijan's GDP for the first six months of 2015.

According to the State Statistics Committee, as of July 1, 2015, the consumer market amounted to 15.638 billion manat, which is 11.9 percent more than its turnover for the same period of last year. The monthly consumer spending was estimated at 274.4 manat per capita in the first six months of 2015, which is 35.3 manat more compared to January-June 2014.

According to the State Statistics Committee, the Azerbaijani trading networks sold consumer goods to the population at 11.962 billion manat in January-June 2015, which is 13.4 percent more than in the same period of 2014. Legal entities ensured 11.1 percent of trade turnover, individual entrepreneurs - 53 percent, fairs and markets - 35.7 percent.

The food trade (5.390 billion manat) increased by 11.7 percent in January-June 2015 from year to year, while retail sales of non-food items (6.038 billion manat) - by 18.4 percent. The retail sale volume of non-food items was more than the food trade. Over this period, every citizen of the country acquired consumer goods at 209.9 manat per month, which is 30.8 manat more than in January-June 2014.

Paid services worth 3.202 billion manat were rendered to the population in January-June 2015 or 6 percent more compared to January-June 2014. Legal entities ensured 54.5 percent of this growth and rendered the services worth 2.363 billion manat.

Each citizen bought paid services worth 56.2 manat per month in January-June 2015 or 3 manat more than in January-June 2014. Transportation, public utilities and communication services prevail in the structure of paid services. Besides improving the material condition, great using of paid services by the population is associated with the fact that the structure of rendered paid services is being improved. A network of companies is being developed in this sector.

According to the State Statistics Committee, in June 2015, the prices on consumer goods and tariffs on services decreased by 1.1 percent compared to the previous month. The inflation hit 3.5 percent in January-June 2015 compared to January-June 2014.

The deflation hit 0.6 percent in Azerbaijan in May 2015 and 0.2 percent in April.

The food prices decreased by 2.7 percent, non-food items and tariffs for services remained at the same level in Azerbaijan in June 2015 compared to the previous month.

The prices on flour, buckwheat, beef, chicken, fish, vegetable oil, sugar, banana, cherry-plum, cherry, strawberry, cucumbers, tomatoes, greens, sweet peppers, eggplants, beans, potatoes, onions , garlic, cabbage, carrots and beets decreased in Azerbaijan during a month.

During this period the prices on rice, eggs, lemons, walnuts, chestnuts, apples and drinks increased.

The tariffs for passenger transportation in Azerbaijan's transport sector increased by 1.3 percent in June 2015 compared to May.

The tariffs for cargo transportation decreased by 0.1 percent in June compared to May.

The tariffs for passenger transportation to the CIS countries and other foreign countries by air increased by 7.1 and 4.1 percent, accordingly. The cargo transportation tariffs remained unchanged.

The tariffs for passenger transportation to the CIS countries by trains in June increased by 11.7 percent.

The cargo transportation to the CIS countries and other international destinations by ships decreased by 1.4 and 1.1 percent.

The tariffs for transportation of gas by pipelines decreased by 0.1 percent in June, respectively, while the oil transportation tariffs remained unchanged.

The tariffs for cargo and passenger transportation by vehicles remained at the same level in June.

In June, the base index of consumer prices, calculated except for the goods and services subject to seasonal changes (fruits and vegetables) and the prices of which are regulated by the state, remained at the same level compared to the previous month and by 3.8 percent compared to January-June 2014.

The industrial producer price index decreased by 2.8 percent in Azerbaijan in June 2015 compared to May. During this period, producer prices in the mining industry decreased by 3.8 percent, while in the manufacturing industry increased by 2.6 percent.

The production prices on crude oil and natural gas decreased by 3.9 percent in June 2015. The producer prices in metal ore extraction was 1.4 percent. The production prices in the extraction of stone, sand, salt, gravel and other products remained unchanged compared to the previous month.

The prices in the production of tobacco products decreased by 7.3 percent, production of rubber and plastic goods - by 0.5 percent. The prices in the chemical industry increased by 5.1 percent, production of oil products - by 5 percent, production of beverages - by 0.3 percent, production of food and building materials - by 0.2 percent and in the press - 0.6 percent in June.

The prices increased in the production of leather and leather goods, clothing and footwear, as well as spinning and metallurgy by 0.1 percent.

The prices on production, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and steam, water and waste treatment remained unchanged in June 2015.
