Review of construction sector in Azerbaijan (January-February 2017)

Most of construction work accounted for primary construction, reconstruction and expansion in January-February 2017, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said.

Some 66.2 percent of the total volume of construction work accounted for primary construction, reconstruction and expansion, 9.6 percent - overhaul, 4.9 percent - current repair and 19.3 percent - other construction work.

Some 90.1 percent of the total volume of construction work was carried out by non-state construction companies.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, housing commissioning decreased by 20.5 percent in Azerbaijan in January-February 2017 compared to a 13-percent-decrease in 2016.

Some 101,500 square meters of housing were commissioned in Azerbaijan in February 2017 compared to 107,600 square meters in January 2017 and 135,800 square meters in February 2016.

Some 209,100 square meters of housing were commissioned in Azerbaijan in January-February 2017 compared to 262,900 square meters in the same period of 2016.

Construction material market

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, the construction materials worth 54.7 million manat were produced in January-February 2017, which is by 71.2 percent more than in January-February 2016.

Cement production increased by 14.7 percent up to 240,100 tons, the production of building lime – by 2.1 times up to 4,301 tons.

The production of building blocks and cement bricks also increased.

The production of artificial stone bricks or concrete bricks increased by 2.4 times up to 13,459.7 tons.

The production of bricks increased by 15.4 percent up to 30,000 cubic meters, precast concrete building structures - by 7.4 times up to 22,300 tons, processed marble, travertine, alabaster and items made of them – by 3.6 times up to 680.3 tons.

The production of gypsum plaster production decreased by 30.1 percent up to 17,300 tons, asphalt - by 51.1 percent up to 18,000 tons, ready-mixed concrete – by 23.9 percent up to 46,900 tons in January-February 2017, the report said.
