Prices and situation in consumer market in Azerbaijan (January-March 2017)

According to the State Statistics Committee, as of January-March 2017, 10.1 billion manat accounted for the Azerbaijani consumer market, which is by 1 percent more than its turnover for January-March 2016. The monthly consumer expenses are estimated at 347.8 manat per capita in January-March 2017 or by 41.3 manat more compared to January-March 2016.

The retail trade turnover amounted to 7.9 billion manat in January-March 2017, which is by 1.6 percent more than in January-March 2016. Legal entities ensured 11.1 percent of the trade turnover.

Some 272.4 manat account for the people’s shopping monthly, which is by 36.5 manat more than in January-March 2016.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, food trade (4,039.4 million manat) increased by 0.7 percent in real terms and reached 51 percent of the retail trade in January-March 2017, while retail sales of non-food products (3,886.8 million manat) showed a 2.6 percent real growth and ensured 49 percent of turnover.

Paid services worth 1,915.9 million manat were rendered to the population in January-March 2017 or by 1.4 percent less compared to January-March 2016. Legal entities ensured 72.9 percent of this growth and rendered the services worth 1,397.5 million manat. Every citizen of the country used paid services worth 197.5 manat per month in January-March 2017, which is by 11.6 manat more than in Jan.-March 2016.

Transportation, public utilities and communication services prevail in the structure of paid services.

Prices

According to the State Statistics Committee, the prices on consumer goods and tariffs for services increased by 1.6 percent in March 2017 compared to February 2017.

The food prices increased by 3.1 percent, non-food items - by 0.6 percent, paid services – 0.5 percent in Azerbaijan during the reporting period.

The prices on consumer goods and tariffs for services increased by 13.2 percent in Azerbaijan in January-March 2017 compared to January-March 2016.

The food prices increased by 17 percent, non-food items - by 12.6 percent, paid services – 8.6 percent in Azerbaijan during this period.

The prices on tobacco products increased by 90 percent, tea, coffee and cocoa - by 28.7 percent, oils and fats - by 27.1 percent, mineral water, soft drinks and juices - by 20.6 percent, bread and cereals - by 17.6 percent, vodka and brandy - by 17.3 percent, dairy products, cheese and eggs - by 11.5 percent, fish products - by 10.6 percent, etc. on year-to-year basis.

The prices on household appliances increased by 35.4 percent for the year, small electrical appliances - by 34.2 percent, medicines - by 32.3 percent, data processing equipment, namely, calculators, personal computers, tablets, notebooks - by 30.3 percent, spare parts for cars - by 31 percent, jewelry - by 27 percent, stationery - by 20.7 percent, etc. in January-March 2017.

The prices on passenger transportation by sea increased by 65.3 percent, by railway - by 15.6 percent, by air - by 6 percent, recreation services by 9.9 percent, car repair services by 5.6 percent, etc. in January-March 2017.

The base index of consumer prices, calculated except for the goods and services subject to seasonal changes (fruits and vegetables) increased by 12.6 percent in January-March 2017 compared to January-March 2016.

The producer prices on industrial products decreased by 6.3 percent in Azerbaijan in March 2017 compared to February 2017.

The producer prices in the mining industry decreased by 8.7 percent, while in the manufacturing industry remained at the same level in March 2017.

The producer prices on industrial products increased by 74.6 percent in January-March 2017 compared to January-March 2016, while the producer prices in the mining industry - by 83.3 percent and manufacturing industry – 38.3 percent.
