Review of construction sector in Azerbaijan (January-April 2017)

Most of construction work accounted for primary construction, reconstruction and expansion in January-April 2017, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said.

Some 68.6 percent of the total volume of construction work accounted for primary construction, reconstruction and expansion, 9 percent - overhaul, 4.5 percent - current repair and 17.9 percent - other construction work.

Some 88.8 percent of the total volume of construction work was carried out by non-state construction companies.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, housing commissioning increased by 14.2 percent in Azerbaijan in January-April 2017 compared to a 13-percent-decrease in January-April 2016.

Some 121,000 square meters of housing were commissioned in Azerbaijan in April 2017 compared to 176,400 square meters in March 2017 and 109,000 square meters in April 2016.

Some 506,500 square meters of housing were commissioned in Azerbaijan in January-April 2017 compared to 443,700 square meters in the same period of 2016.

Construction material market

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, the construction materials worth 142.9 million manat were produced in January-April 2017, which is by 44.7 percent more than in January-April 2016.

Cement production increased by 23.6 percent up to 744,000 tons, the production of building lime – by 0.8 percent up to 7,386.2 tons, ready-mixed concrete – by 39 percent up to 171,400 tons.

The production of precast concrete building structures increased by fourfold up to 57,000 tons, bricks - by 29.1 percent up to 75,000 cubic meters, processed marble, travertine, alabaster and items made of them – by 2.8 times up to 2,547.4 tons, building blocks and cement bricks, artificial stone bricks or concrete bricks – 7.1 percent up to 29,497.7 tons.

The production of gypsum plaster decreased by 20.2 percent up to 34,900 tons, asphalt - by 75.2 percent up to 45,200 tons in January-April 2017, the report said.

Land market

The prices on land plots decreased in Baku in April, MBA Group consulting company said.

The price on land plots decreased by 3.14 percent.

Activity on the land market greatly decreased in April.

The prices on land plots usually increase in April-May, but now we are witnessing an opposite trend. This is connected with a decrease in private housing construction.
