Prices and situation in consumer market in Azerbaijan (January-July 2017)

According to the State Statistics Committee, as of January-July 2017, 24.2 billion manat accounted for the Azerbaijani consumer market, which is by 1.5 percent more than its turnover for January-July 2016.

The monthly consumer expenses are estimated at 355.2 manat per capita in January-July 2017 or by 45.7 manat more compared to January-July 2016.

The retail trade turnover amounted to 19.0 billion manat in January-July 2017, which is by 1.8 percent more than in January-July 2016.

Legal entities ensured 11.6 percent of the trade turnover.

Some 279.2 manat account for the people’s shopping monthly in January-July 2017, which is by 39.0 manat more than in January-July 2016.

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, food trade (9,562.3 million manat) increased by 1.2 percent in real terms in January-July 2017.

Some 9,425.0 million manat (2.4 percent of real growth) accounted for the retail sales of non-food products.

Paid services worth 4,444.7 million manat were rendered to the population in January-July 2017 or by 0.5 percent more compared to January-July 2016.

Legal entities ensured 73.5 percent of this growth and rendered the services worth 3,265.7 million manat.

Every citizen of the country used paid services worth 457.6 manat per month in January-July 2017, which is by 37.7 manat more than in January-July 2016.

Transportation, public utilities and communication services prevail in the structure of paid services.

Prices

According to the State Statistics Committee, the prices on consumer goods and tariffs for services increased by 0.1 percent in July 2017 compared to June 2017.

The food prices decreased by 1 percent, non-food items increased by 1.6 percent and paid services - by 0.4 percent in Azerbaijan during the reporting period.

The prices on consumer goods and tariffs for services increased by 14 percent in Azerbaijan in January-July 2017 compared to January-July 2016.

The food prices increased by 18.2 percent, non-food items - by 12.6 percent, paid services – 9.6 percent in Azerbaijan during this period.

The prices for beef, lamb meat, cheese, butter and olive oil, lemon, onions, garlic increased during the month. The prices for flour, buckwheat, semolina, pasta, chicken, eggs, fish products, sunflower and corn oil, sugar and granulated sugar, bananas, apples, pears, cherry plums, peaches, watermelons, melons, tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, tobacco products and eggplants decreased.

During the reporting period, prices for fabrics, footwear, building materials, gasoline, furniture and household utensils, carpets and other floor coverings, small electrical appliances, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, spare parts for cars and bicycles increased.

The prices for clothing, audio and video recorders, air conditioners, personal computers and mobile phones decreased in July.

Over the past month, prices for dry cleaning services, trips to other countries, passenger transportation by rail, as well as taxi services increased. At the same time, prices for passenger transportation by air decreased.

The prices for other paid services remained unchanged.

The base index of consumer prices, calculated except for the goods and services subject to seasonal changes (fruits and vegetables) increased by 13.3 percent in January-July 2017 compared to January-July 2016.

The producer prices for industrial products decreased by 4.5 percent in Azerbaijan in July 2017 compared to June 2017.

During the reporting period, producer prices in the mining industry decreased by 4.6 percent, while in the manufacturing industry – 5.3 percent.

The producer prices for industrial products increased by 46.0 percent, while the producer prices in the mining industry - by 47.2 percent and manufacturing industry – 32.5 percent in January-July 2017 compared to January-July 2016.
