Azerbaijani IT sector (January-July 2017)

According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, information and communication services worth 958.2 million manat were rendered for Azerbaijan's population and organizations in January-July 2017, which is by 4.9 percent more than in January-July 2016.

Some 81 percent of income received through the communication sector accounted for the non-state enterprises during the reporting period.

Around 72 percent of the total volume of information and communication services accounted for the services rendered to the population.

Mobile communication market

The revenues obtained from mobile services reached 477 million manat in Azerbaijan in January-July 2017 or by 2.1 percent more than in the same period of 2016.

At the same time, the revenues of the mobile sector are equal to 49.8 percent of revenues obtained from the entire telecommunications market.

PC market

As of January-July 2017, the sale of notebooks and netbooks increased by 9.3 percent in Azerbaijan, the Global Stats statistical center said.

As of August 1, 2017, the market share of notebooks reached 58.6 percent in Azerbaijan, which is by 17 percent more than in the same period of 2016.

Almost a 10.7 percent decrease in desktop computer sales was observed in the country as of January-July 2017.

The market share of desktop computers in Azerbaijan reached 38 percent as of late July 2017, which is by 17 percent less than in the same period of 2016.

The market share of tablet computers in Azerbaijan ranked third and reached 3.42 percent.

The market share of tablet computers decreased by 11.6 percent in Azerbaijan as of January-July 2017 and by 17 percent less than in the same period of 2016.

Operating system market

Android is the most popular operating system in Azerbaijan. As of August 1, 2017, it ranks first with a 49.3 percent share on the operating system market.

As of January-July 2017, Android’s share increased by 15 percent on the Azerbaijani operating system market.

Android’s share increased by 25.3 percent on the Azerbaijani operating system market compared to the same period of 2016.

A Microsoft Windows market share decreased by 13.3 percent in Azerbaijan in January-July 2017.

Microsoft ranks second on the operating system market with a 34.5 percent share.

A Windows share on the Azerbaijani operating system market reduced by 18.8 percent in January-July 2017 compared to the same period of 2016.

iOS with a 9.42 percent share ranked third, followed by less known operating systems- 1.69 percent, X operating system – 1.67 percent and Series 40 operating system – 1.05 percent. iOS market share decreased by 9.95 percent compared to early 2017.
