Prices and situation in consumer market in Azerbaijan (January-September 2017)

According to the State Statistics Committee, as of January-September 2017, 31.7 billion manat accounted for the Azerbaijani consumer market, which is by 1.9 percent more than its turnover for January-September 2016.

The monthly consumer expenses are estimated at 362.5 manat per capita in January-September 2017 or by 47.2 manat more compared to January-September 2016.

The retail trade turnover amounted to 24.8 billion manat in January-September 2017, which is by 2.1 percent more than in January-September 2016.

Legal entities ensured 11.9 percent of the trade turnover.

Some 283.4 manat account for the people’s shopping monthly, which is by 40.0 manat more than in January-September 2016. According to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee, food trade (12,556.1 million manat) increased by 1.4 percent in real terms.

Some 12,244.7 million manat (2.9 percent of real growth) accounted for the retail sales of non-food products.

Paid services worth 5,979.4 million manat were rendered to the population in January-September 2017 or by 0.8 percent more compared to Jan.-Sept. 2016. Legal entities ensured 73.4 percent of this growth and rendered the services worth 4,386.0 million manat.

Every citizen of the country used paid services worth 615.0 manat per month in Jan.-September 2017, which is by 52.9 manat more than in Jan.-September 2016.

Transportation, public utilities and communication services prevail in the structure of paid services.

Prices

According to the State Statistics Committee, the prices on consumer goods and tariffs for services increased by 0.7 percent in September 2017 compared to August 2017.

The food prices decreased by 1.4 percent, non-food items – 0.4 percent and paid services increased by 0.1 percent in Azerbaijan during the reporting period.

The prices on consumer goods and tariffs for services increased by 13.9 percent in Azerbaijan in January-September 2017 compared to January-September 2016.

The food prices increased by 17.9 percent, non-food items - by 12.5 percent, paid services – 9.6 percent in Azerbaijan during this period.

During the month, prices for beef and lamb, sausages, pasteurized milk, cheese, butter and olive oil, cherries, sweet cherries, apricots, watermelons, strawberries, cabbage, greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, green beans, beets, garlic, coffee and tea increased for the month.

The prices for flour, buckwheat and semolina, pasta, chicken, eggs, sunflower and corn oil, sugar and granulated sugar, bananas, apples, pears, plum, peaches, grapes, eggplants, sweet peppers, carrots, potatoes, onions and tobacco products decreased.

For the reporting period, prices for fabrics, footwear, building materials, furniture and household utensils, household appliances, small electrical appliances, cars and car spare parts, bicycles, stationery and jewelry increased, while the prices for clothing and mobile phones - decreased.

For the reporting period, prices for dry cleaning services, repair and clothing rental, apartments for rent, dental services, car repair, international passenger transportation by air, taxi services, paid education, hairdressing and cosmetic services also increased.

At the same time, prices for international tours, international passenger transportation by rail and hotel rooms decreased.

The prices for other goods and services remained unchanged.

The base index of consumer prices, calculated except for the goods and services subject to seasonal changes (fruits and vegetables) increased by 13.1 percent in January-September 2017 compared to January-September 2016.

The producer prices for industrial products increased by 6.6 percent in Azerbaijan in September 2017 compared to August 2017.

During the reporting period, producer prices in the mining industry increased by 8.5 percent, while in the manufacturing industry – 1.2 percent.

The producer prices for industrial products increased by 41.1 percent, while the producer prices in the mining industry - by 41.0 percent and manufacturing industry – 32.2 percent in January-September 2017 compared to January-September 2016.
