The Baku State City Department of the Ministry of Taxes summarized the initial results of the monitoring of indication of prices in two scales. 27 groups have been established with regard to ensure the indication of prices of services and goods at the denominated manat. As a result of monitoring of 6902 facilities active in Baku it was revealed that the prices were indicated in two scales only in 4890 facilities.
In accordance with the presidential decree оn �Change of nominal price of banknotes and scale of prices in Azerbaijan’ the state bodies and organizations, as well as all enterprises irrespective of the form of ownership by 1 October 2005 were to ensure the recalculation of all wholesale and retail prices, tariffs of services, including prices and tariffs, regulated by the state, as well as additions to prices and discounts on them. The Ministry of Taxes and the Ministry of Economic Development are in charge of controlling the implementation of the decree.
So, much work is to be done almost in all bodies prior to transition to denominated currency. The most difficult is to prepare the population for it. Most people still remember the previous money reforms and exchange of money, when those in failure of exchange of old banknotes, or forgotten of �under-pillow’ reserves become a hunter of old banknotes.
So, the government should demand from the state the civilized replacement of the banknotes, without financial losses and minimal moral damage to population. In some 5 years the denomination of manat will become another page in the history of the country’s economic life, and let it remain in memories in the better way.
