Today, Kazakhstan has launched a national system of digital broadcasting. President Nursultan Nazarbayev made this statement addressing the Industry Forum in Astana during a videoconference with the regions on Tuesday.

"Thanks to a new broadcasting network, about 30 local TV channels will be available to all regions of Kazakhstan.. Previously only five TV channels were available to the Kazakhs," Nazarbayev said.

Also today a test launch of a new round-the-clock TV channel '24.KZ' was held, which will operate on Sept.1, 2012.

"It is gratifying that a new round-the-clock TV channel will appear in Kazakhstan that will transmit only domestic TV production. This is good news. I hope that the new channel will be the same as the world's leading broadcasters," Nazarbayev said.

According to Transport and Communications Minister of Kazakhstan, Askar Zhumagaliyev, thanks to launch of a national satellite TV broadcasting system, residents of the most remote areas have the opportunity to watch domestic TV channels.

"At present, 150,000 families have been already connected to the OTAU TV satellite network,"- Zhumagaliyev said addressing the Industrial Forum.

He said domestic production of receivers and decoders was made to provide the population with the necessary equipment to connect to satellite television. More than 500 small and medium-sized businesses are involved in connecting subscribers to 'OTAU TV'.

"The construction of the national digital air TV broadcasting network has started simultaneously with the launch of satellite TV. The most promising European standard - DVBT2 was taken as a basis. So far, the first phase of the project has been completed.

This means more than 3.5 million Kazakhs living in 370 areas will have access to digital air TV broadcasting already this year," Zhumagaliyev said.

All Kazakh TV channels will be able to switch to digital broadcasting standard. Image and sound quality will be much better. It will be possible to transmit image in HD format.

"In addition, the launch of the national air TV broadcasting network makes it possible to open new Kazakh channels. One of these is 24.kz, he added.
