Turkmenistan's president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov appealed to the people in honor of the celebrated Independence Day on October 27.

In honor of the 22nd anniversary of the independence, two days - October 27-28 - were declared non-working days. In addition, the day-off was postponed to October 29 in connection with the holidays.

"October 27, 1991, the date of gaining Turkmenistan's sacred independence was inscribed in golden letters in the glorious history of our people, " the president said in his appeal.

Turkmenistan's president expressed confidence that "nationwide celebrations in honor of the sacred Independence Day will increase confidence in the soul of each of us about the happy future of the Motherland rapidly going towards creation, large-scale reforms and adoption of humanistic ideals, a sense of pride for the great achievements and significant labor victory of our people".

A military parade and popular march in Ashgabat, and architectural premieres across the country are held. In addition, a mass pardon action is also carried out and over 600 people will get Turkmenistan's citizenship.
