Turmenistan and China signed a number of documents to develop a stronger strategic partnership.

The signing of bilateral documents was held within the framework of the Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov`s state visit to China, according to the Turkmen government.

President Berdimuhamedov and Chinese President Xi Jinping signed the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between the two countries, a joint declaration on the development and deepening of the strategic partnership. The presidents also stated on the acceptance of the Plan for development of the strategic partnership between the two countries for 2014 - 2018.

The report also said that Turkmenistan and China signed a number of other important documents.

Among them are: the agreement on deepening stable cooperation in the field of natural gas; on the safe and stable operation of the "Turkmenistan-China" gas pipeline; on the economic and technical cooperation, on the basic principles of cooperation in the field of transport; Memorandum of Understanding on the cooperation in the field of agriculture; cooperation agreement between the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Export-Import Bank of China and others.

"The agreements reached in the current negotiations, as well as impressive package of the signed bilateral documents gave new huge impetus to realize the large potential of Turkmen-Chinese cooperation, confirming its strategic nature and focus on concrete results," the report said.

China ranks first among the foreign trade partners of Turkmenistan on the trade turnover.

Turkmen president, speaking in Beijing said that in 2007-2013, the trade turnover between the two countries grew by 20 times, and the figure was about $ 10 billion last year, Turkmen"Altyn Asir" TV channel repoted.

"Berdimuhamedov said that, by taking into account the ever-increasing potential of the two countries, as well as the areas of mutual interest, Turkmenistan and China have all the conditions to increase the volume of bilateral trade to $ 20 billion over the next five years," the report noted.
