On the decree of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, a supreme cyberspace council has been established in the country, IRINN reported.

According to the decree, the cyberspace council will be headed by country's president (currently, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad).

In his decree, Khamenei noted that internet is important for personal and social aspects of life, and necessary planning and coordination must be conducted to prevent possible harm towards people who go online.

He added that a special center for the National Supreme Cyberspace Council must be set up.

According to Khamenei's degree, aside from the president, the cyberspace council will include other governmental officials.

Earlier it was reported that Iran's internal networks would be separated from internet by launching national information network.

Iranian Communications Minister Reza Taghipour said Internet in its essence is an unsafe network, and it will be changed to a safe network for the electronic government's exchanges through launching the national grid and using locally-made software.

The issue of security would be resolved through running the national network, Taghipour said adding the national information network needs all-out cooperation of the public and private sector, since it will not work like internet at the beginning.
